Roger Williams Park Zoo

Located amid 40 acres of beautiful woodlands, the Roger Williams Park Zoo provides visitors the opportunity to see animals from all over the globe – some more than a million years old. Naturalistic surroundings are home to more than 100 species of animals including a Komodo dragon, as well as zebras, red pandas, African elephants, Masai giraffes, snow leopards, bears, flamingoes, sloths, and more! Kids from two to 102 have the opportunity to feed giraffes and harbor seals, as well as an array of farmyard animals. For something slightly out of the ordinary, visit our new Explore and Soar area offering an exhilarating zip ride, a train excursion through the woodlands, and an ice cream station. The Zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and is home to many endangered species. As a result, the Zoo participates in cooperative conservation and breeding programs to help ensure the future survival of many endangered species.

Boating: Cruise the Park’s waterways on an iconic swan boat (paddle boats) across from Carousel Village or launch your own kayak or canoe from the boat ramp located near the Temple to Music.

Walking Paths and Trails: Run, walk, or stroll while enjoying the scenic views on the trails and walkways throughout the Park.

Bike Park: Located across from the Temple to Music, the Bike Park includes a pump track and off-road bike trail.

Ball Fields: The Park contains a popular softball field and the Tim O’Neil Baseball Fields.

Tennis: Private tennis lessons and court rentals are offered on the Park’s 10 Har-True clay tennis courts, open from late April until late November.

Playground: Visit the fully accessible Hasbro Boundless Playground located in Carousel Village.

Little Free Libraries: Located outside the Dalrymple Boathouse and in the Big Back Yard inside Roger Williams Park Zoo. Take a book, leave a book!

Mounted Command: The Park is home to the City of Providence’s highly esteemed Mounted Command. The four-legged officers can be seen grazing in the fields across from the Botanical Center.

Trees: There are over 5,000 trees in Roger Williams Park – the oldest dating back to 1860! Download the map of notable trees to learn more about the various trees you can find in the Park.

Roger Williams Park Botanical Center

The Roger Williams Park Botanical Center is New England’s largest glasshouse display garden.  Find a quiet reprieve in any one of the four year-round greenhouses.  A wide variety of plants can be found, including majestic 40′ tall palms, carnivorous plants, 10′ cacti, and succulents.  The rose maze is in bloom from June to September and the outdoor perennial gardens bloom with color from spring to fall.  Visit the calendar to view special events, workshops, and other activities.  Indoors or out, the Center is a magical place to visit in the heart of beautiful Roger Williams Park.

The Museum of Natural History is Rhode Island’s only natural history museum and is home to the state’s only public planetarium. For more than a century the museum has served as a unique educational, scientific and cultural resource by offering exciting exhibits and programming that provide ways for children and families to learn about our world and its people. Our mission is to steward and interpret natural and cultural collections through exhibits, education and research to inspire people of all ages and cultures to enjoy the natural world, in order to better understand themselves and the world.

Located just a ¼ mile from the Zoo is Carousel Village, a year-round destination for the whole ages!  Start your visit with the iconic carousel itself – an indoor ride for both kids and adults. This historic Carousel features classic colonial horses, benches, and other real and mystical creatures to ride.  Join us for a wild ride!
